Hand Painted Kitchen Dorstone, Herefordshire
It may seem that we are constantly banging on about what a wonderful time we had Hand Painting a kitchen here, there and everywhere – in honesty, we love our work and are extremely fortunate to be able to Hand paint Kitchens everyday, for fantastic clients… this Kitchen in Dorstone, Herefordshire (near Hay-on-Wye) was no exception. We loved our time in this gorgeous part of our work area – (Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Staffordshire, Shropshire and West Midlands Conurbation).Our client’s made us incredibly welcome; presenting a hot cup of tea, upon our arrival every morning – much needed after battling the morning traffic!
This stunning Barn Conversion was completed four years ago, our clients moved in two years ago… the barn houses a beautiful handmade wooden kitchen, originally painted by the builder’s painter.
Our clients contacted us to find if we would be interested in painting their kitchen in a shade more to their choice !? Would we?... of course we would! We requested photographs of the kitchen (see the “Before” photographs below) and submitted our quotation.
Our proposal was accepted and we booked the project into our diary…
One month before we were due to start the project, we contacted our clients for their colour choice and ran through a few details.
When on site, we fully protected our client’s worktops and flooring with high quality lining paper and thoroughly degreased surfaces to be painted with our preferred specialist products.
We disassembled and sanded down the carcasses, doors and drawers with our dust-free sanding system (99.9% dust free) – storing them upon our modular racking systems (Erecta-Rack).
Once the preparation stage was complete with primed with our high adhesion primer; Tikkurila OTEX, tinted to the same colour as the topcoat, in order to start building the depth of colour from the first coat… we applied two full coats this oil based primer followed by at least two topcoats. The topcoats of Tikkurila Helmi 30 (30% sheen level) were applied once we had flattened back with P400 Mirka Abranet in between coats. Helmi 30 is our go-to finish for kitchens – it is the most chip resistant and abrasive resistant paint that we have encountered and leaves a wonderful low lustre sheen.
The finished project looks beautifully bespoke with a fantastic flawless finish.
When we re-assembled the kitchen and removed the protection, our clients were delighted with their kitchen – “…we are both very proud of our ‘new’ kitchen rather than being sadly embarrassed beforehand”… they were kind enough to send through a lovely review, via email, once we had finished – see below.

Wow. Martin has done an exceptional job in updating our kitchen.
When we moved in 2 years ago a replacement kitchen was on our \"to do list\". However thankfully we started to explore the possibility of painting the kitchen.
